TEAS Science Practice Test
Updated October 27, 2026
Science is the biggest section of the ATI TEAS 7: 50 questions in 60 minutes. Its largest part is human anatomy and physiology, covering body systems such as the heart, lungs, nervous system, digestion and kidneys. The rest covers biology, chemistry and scientific reasoning. Try the free questions below.
What TEAS Science covers
- Human anatomy and physiology (the largest part): the cardiovascular, respiratory, nervous, digestive, urinary, endocrine, immune, muscular, skeletal and reproductive systems.
- Biology: cells, DNA, genetics and basic microbiology.
- Chemistry: atoms, the periodic table, chemical reactions, and acids and bases.
- Scientific reasoning: experimental design, variables and reading data.

-
Which chamber of the heart pumps oxygen-rich blood out to the body?Answer: AThe left ventricle pumps oxygenated blood into the aorta and out to the body, which is why it has the thickest muscular wall. The right ventricle pumps blood to the lungs.
-
Where does gas exchange take place in the lungs?Answer: BOxygen and carbon dioxide are exchanged across the thin walls of the alveoli, the tiny air sacs surrounded by capillaries.
-
Which part of the kidney filters blood to begin forming urine?Answer: CEach kidney contains about a million nephrons. Filtration starts in the glomerulus, a ball of capillaries inside the nephron. The ureters carry urine to the bladder, and the urethra carries it out of the body.
-
Which hormone, made by the pancreas, lowers blood glucose?Answer: DInsulin helps cells take in glucose, lowering blood sugar. Glucagon, also from the pancreas, raises it.
-
What is the main job of the small intestine?Answer: AMost digestion is completed and most nutrients are absorbed in the small intestine, through its villi. The large intestine absorbs much of the remaining water, and the gallbladder stores bile.
-
A solution has a pH of 3. It is:Answer: BA pH below 7 is acidic, 7 is neutral and above 7 is basic (alkaline). A pH of 3 is strongly acidic.
-
Which organelle produces most of a cell's energy (ATP)?Answer: CMitochondria carry out cellular respiration, producing most of the cell's ATP. Ribosomes make proteins, and the nucleus holds the DNA.
-
Which part of the brain controls breathing and heart rate?Answer: CThe medulla oblongata, in the brainstem, controls automatic functions such as breathing, heart rate and blood pressure.
-
Which blood vessels carry blood back toward the heart?Answer: AVeins return blood to the heart. Arteries carry blood away from it.
-
Which type of joint is found at the shoulder and hip?Answer: DBall-and-socket joints at the shoulder and hip allow movement in many directions. The elbow and knee are hinge joints.
-
Which is the correct order of the levels of organization, from smallest to largest?Answer: BCells form tissues, tissues form organs, and organs work together in organ systems.
-
A student wants to test whether fertilizer affects plant growth. Which is the control group?Answer: CThe control group gets no treatment (no fertilizer) but is otherwise kept under the same conditions, so it can be compared with the treated plants.
-
What is the charge of a neutron?Answer: DNeutrons have no charge. Protons are positive and electrons are negative.
-
Which body system includes the thymus, spleen and lymph nodes?Answer: AThe thymus, spleen and lymph nodes are part of the lymphatic and immune system, which helps fight infection and returns fluid to the blood.
-
Which process moves water across a cell membrane from an area of lower solute concentration to higher solute concentration?Answer: BOsmosis is the passive movement of water across a semipermeable membrane toward the side with more solute.
Tips for TEAS Science
Study anatomy and physiology one body system at a time, and learn what each system does as well as its parts, because many questions ask how organs work together. For the reasoning questions, find the independent and dependent variables first.
